On Friday night I got to experience my first "Half Saree" function. Keerthana, age 11, explained to me that the Half Saree is a coming of age for young Indian girls between the ages of 9 and 11 years old. Per Tradition, she as the host was to greet and receive a blessing from every family and wait until each guest eats and leaves before eating at the party. (Or until the elders said so) It was a beautiful and unique experience.
